Shannon Eckstein's Golfing hotspots
Shannon Eckstein is the epitome of the modern day athlete and is regarded as one of the most talented surf sports competitors ever produced in Australia, if not the World. At just 25 years of age, the born and bred Gold Coast superstar last year secured a second World Ironman title and an unprecedented third Australian Ironman crown.
A talented all-round athlete, Eckstein's coming of age presented itself in 2002 when, as an 18 year-old, he became the first and only athlete to ever secure both Junior and Senior State Ironman titles in the one season.
A multiple underage state champion in Ironman, Board, Surf, Ski and Teams events, Eckstein then produced an even bigger feat later that year, when he clinched a coveted World title crown to stamp himself as the man to beat in the surf sports arena.
A keen golfer and surfer, Shannon maintains regular voluntary lifesaving patrols with the Northcliffe club which he joined in 2002.

Hi my name is Shannon Eckstein and I'm the current World and Australian Ironman champion.
When I'm not out on surf patrol or training for competition with the Northclifffe Surf Life Saving Club, I love to get out and hit a few balls at any one of the many golf courses stretching across the Gold Coast.
There are hundreds of courses available to tempt golfers of all capabilities and listed below are some of my favourites.
Just remember when you're visiting a Gold Coast beach always swim between the red and yellow flags. If you're unsure of anything just chat to the patrolling lifesaver or lifeguard and stay safe this summer.
Lakelands Golf Course
Jack Nicklaus designed. Lakelands is always immaculately presented and has great facilities. It provides a great overall golfing experience.

Hope Island Golf Course
Hope Island Golf Course is definitely a thinking golfer's course. It has 128 pot style bunkers and no shortage of water hazards. The greens are undulating and fast. My favourite hole is the par 3, 17th. If you decide to go for the green it is 180m over the water to the pin.

The Glades Golf Course
Designed by Greg Norman. The Glades is another course that is always immaculately presented with plenty of bunkers and water hazards found on nearly every hole. The greens offer a true putting surface.

RACV Royal Pines Golf Course
Royal Pines Golf Course offers a 27-hole composite course. Undulating terrain both on the green and fairways will test the best of golfers. The fairways are very tight and provide a great challenge.

Sanctuary Cove
The Palms Golf Course is a resort style course that has a great mix of lakes and bunkers which will challenge golfers of all levels. It is a very well manicured course with great old Palm trees lining the course. My favourite holes are the par 4 7th which has a green surrounded by water, the 9th which is a long, uphill par 3 over water, plus the par 5 18th which requires great course management to stay out of trouble.
