Hanging out with Zane Holmes

The Gold Coast's two time World Ironman champion Zane Holmes is the ultimate ambassador for surf lifesaving having secured numerous individual and team successes during 22 years of elite competition.

A five time Kellogg's Nutri Grain series champion, Holmes is also the most successful Ironman athlete at state level, capturing six Queensland titles to date, and is a former Australian titleholder plus Coolangatta Gold endurance champion.

Outside of competition the BMD Northcliffe competitor invests a considerable amount of time as part owner of Dolphin Surf Craft and likes nothing better than kicking back and enjoying all that the Gold Coast has to offer during his spare time.

When not competing or working you're likely to find Zane with wife Kai at one of his many local hang outs.

1. The BMD Northcliffe Surf Club
The bistro at the BMD Northcliffe Surf Club overlooks one of the best beaches in the World. It's open all day everyday from 7.30am for breakfast right through until 9.00pm and offers modern Australian cuisine with a wide range of fresh fish, pastas, salads and mouth watering steaks. An extensive kids menu also makes the surf club a great spot for families. No better place to relax and watch the world go by.

2. The Cavern
Located at Nobby Beach on the Gold Coast Highway, "The Cavern" is a unique lounge caf? where you can enjoy an amazingly chilled atmosphere. It's a great place for anyone interested in the arts, good coffee and discovering new teas or listening to live music. The Cavern provides a vintage lounge room atmosphere with comfy couches and plenty of space to work or relax. A funky, internet lounge with six new desktop computers is also available on site.

3. Cha Cha's Japanese Restaurant
This little gem is located on the Gold Coast Highway at Broadbeach and offers fantastic authentic Japanese food at very affordable prices. A great night time atmosphere, Cha Cha's is the perfect choice if you want a quick and easy meal while dining out. I'm partial to the ginger chicken and love the Steak Don!

4. The Soundlounge
Located inside the Currumbin RSL, The Soundlounge is a great venue for live music with intimate surrounds and excellent viewing from all areas. I love going to watch the live acoustic acts as it combines to provide a really chilled vibe. Many great acts have passed through the Soundlounge over the years.

5. The beach
The Gold Coast is renowned for its world class surf and beaches. Kai and I usually head down to our local at Nobby Beach to take the dog for a walk or just to sit back and relax. Any beach along our beautiful coastline is worth a visit and each provides its own vantage points and culture. We are blessed with many headlands on the Gold Coast so no matter what the weather conditions you'll find a spot protected and away from the elements.
